What to Expect:
Established in 1969, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site is the first national park in Canada also designated a national historic site in its entirety. Protecting a rich cultural landscape, Kejimkujik’s name comes from the Mi’kmaw word “kejimkuji’jk”, which means “little fairies”.
Well-known for the canoe and portage routes traveled by the Mi’kmaq for thousands of years between the Bay of Fundy and the Atlantic Coast, a new addition to Kejimkujik in recent years are the shared-use trails that welcome mountain bikers!
All of the trails in Kejimkujik are multi-directional, so share the trails and be sure to approach other trail users respectfully.
For
Mersey River is a shared-use trail that follows the river’s edge in twists and turns. From the trail’s parking and picnic area, head along the river.
The main trailhead at Mill Falls has lots of parking and enters onto the Ukme’k Trail. The Ukme’k Trail connects to the Mill Falls Trail, Beech Grove Trail, and Mersey River Trail.
Kejimkujik’s newest trail, Ukme’k, means twisted in Mi’kmaq, and was inspired by the winding path this trail takes along the River.
Ukme’k features optional tech and smooth berms and rollers over 13.5 km of singletrack between Mill Falls and the popular day-use area at Merrymakedge Beach. Optional features include granite boulders that provide a challenge for riders that want to play between tech and the flow of berms and rollers.
A rainbow crosswalk connects Ukme’k to the Mersey River Trail, and is a popular spot for a picture that welcomes all.
Slapfoot Trail is a popular shared-use trail that can be accessed from Meadow Beach, various points in Jeremy’s Bay campground, Jim Charles Point, Jake’s Landing, or Merrymakedge. Enjoy climbing the steep terrain through scattered granite boulders, and follow the flatter trail along the lakeshore.
