What to Expect:
Woolastook is a former Provincial park located just outside of Fredericton that features cross-country trails managed and maintained by River Valley Cycling. This is an excellent riding experience in tall forests and rolling terrain along the water. There are options here for brand new riders and experienced riders will often come to crank out laps. It’s worth going out of the way just to get a view from the lookout at the top of Mountain Rd. This is a shared trail network so be aware of hikers, runners, and dogs. Now groomed for winter riding.
For
The Woolastook loop is an approachable route for riders of any age or any ability. At a little less than 5 km, the wide double-track trail has just enough roots and rock to keep things interesting. The loop offers a forgiving switchback climb that is a great challenge for beginner riders to work on. There’s a picnic table by the water at the halfway point for a snack.
Trails like Split Rail and Shoreline West offer some great flow with the difficulty ramping up as riders approach these trails with greater speed. Bev’s Knoll is a classic Fredericton singletrack weaving through chunky roots in old forest. Everything rides well in both directions.
Woolastook is the site of the annual 4-hour ‘Wooly 4’ endurance race. Experienced riders appreciate this network as a place where you can ride race laps until your legs and lungs are ready to fail. If you are in to Strava getting on the ‘Turbowolf’ segment leaderboard is a prize.
